CATEP Advisory Board
The CATEP Advisory Board (CAB) was formed within the first few months after the approval of the CATEP grant. The functions of the board are:
- Review and validate the Employability Skills (ES) set
- Provide company internal contacts for internships (ACC students), externships (ACC/Secondary faculty), and job shadowing (ACC/secondary students)
- Provide personnel to participate in Mini Tech Fairs (to be held at ACC or high schools approx once/semester)
- Suggest course content for training incumbent employees in the “soft skills” (through ACC’s Corporate Learning Division)
- Provide feedback to ACC regarding effectiveness of training and updated curriculum
The ES, or “soft skills” mentioned above (as determined by the National Workforce Center for Emerging Technologies and South Carolina Advanced Technological Education effort) include:
- Verbal/written communication skills
- Critical-thinking/problem-solving skills
- Teamwork/collaboration skills
- Contextual awareness of work responsibilities
- Self-management/motivation skills
CATEP is constantly seeking to expand in order to help the local business community. The CAB functions as the “Customer” for the CATEP grant - CATEP must be responsive to its Customer.
